PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD

Everyone wants to have their work published. Before you submit your work remove all spelling and grammatical mistakes. If the publishers find mistakes in your work, especially in the beginning pages, they might conclude that the book requires more work than it is worth and they will reject it outright. If you submit unpolished work it will give the impression that you are an unprofessional author.

Go over your manuscript until you consider it perfect, then have as many people as possible read it because it is impossible for one person to catch EVERY mistake in a manuscript. Make sure you ask readers to be very critical of your work. Make necessary changes but make sure that you preserve your voice. Your voice is what makes your manuscript distinctly "you".

CHASING THE MONEY

I would like to take the time to address an issue that seems to be popping up all over the industry. If you are representing yourself as an editor, proofreader, publisher, author, etc., please do your job. Ordinary people would not believe how many times a manuscript that is straight garbage is published and then critics jump all over the author, often ruining their careers. If you are paying people to help you polish your work make sure these people are held accountable. I am seeing so many people that are just chasing the money and are being paid for services that they are not even attempting to perform. It is almost impossible for one person to catch all of the mistakes in a manuscript. Publishing a book is a process and a team effort. There are also many authors out there who are just churning out pages of junk in order to get a paycheck. Please remember to always take pride in your work. When you love what you are doing, the money will come.

IT'S NOT PERSONAL

We would like to take the time to inform authors that when you submit a manuscript to be edited, we will ALWAYS preserve the author's voice. We know and understand that your writing is your art. When changes are suggested they are not to be overly harsh or to imply that you do not know what you are doing. We constantly strive to help you put out your best work. Please take all comments as tools to ensure that your work will shine and that your name will be taken seriously in the industry. Remember, our name is on the line also and we will not do anything to blemish the impeccable record of LEGACY EDITING & ETC.

We thank you for your business and referrals.
